Midland Fairgrounds Cancels Traditional 2020 County Fair Plans for Youth Livestock, Horse and Small Animal Events Remain
Midland, MI – June 11, 2020 – The Midland County Fair Board is sad to announce the cancellation of the 82nd annual Midland County Fair that was originally planned for August 16-22, 2020. The decision was made in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the thousands of exhibitors, guests, vendors and employees that typically attend and work the event. The cancellation includes the carnival, grounds entertainment, grandstand events, open classes and still exhibits.
“Large gatherings such as the fair are not permitted until phase 6 of the Michigan Safe Start Plan,” explained Trish Steele, fair manager. “The Fair Board is disappointed that they cannot host the full fair experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fair is a summer event that generations of families and guests support each year and look forward to but this was a necessary decision. We hope to see all those people again next year for the 2021 fair on August 15-21.”
Despite the cancellation of the traditional fair, the Midland Fair Board is still planning to offer youth livestock, horse, small animal, dog and cat shows and host the large animal livestock auction. This will be an exhibitor-only competition with no public attendance or carnival which aligns with the state’s reopening plan (pending health department approval). If the gathering sizes are too large for the in-person competition, a virtual competition may be offered to registered youth exhibitors.
